Existence and purpose – Lilah’s dance or play

What could the meaning of yesterday’s entry quoting Ramana Maharshi be, re ‘Existence and purpose’?

Strictly, in advaita there is no purpose in existence, and no creation (ajativada). There is only the play of Lilah, or of Maya. Taking it from there, everyone, everything that exists has a place, or a role in that grand design or play – for there must be a design, since it is enacted by consciousness, in which intelligence is inherent. Whether one likes it or not, a role is thrown onto one’s lap, even if it be a fairly passive one – the number of roles, of possibilities, and developments in the play is infinite, as the background is one of everlastingness or eternity.
